Palm Beach Gardens woman describes mall robbery

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. - That moment, where suddenly everything is on the line happened on Friday to Amanda Sherwood of Palm Beach Gardens.

"(He) came up behind me, grabbed my arm, put something into the back of my neck," she said.

Sherwood was holding 16-month-old Claire outside Nordstrom Friday morning, and loading her trunk.

"I was only an easy target because I had a kid."

Fifteen weeks pregnant, she was suddenly fighting for three lives.

"The adrenaline is just rushing, and you think 'what do I need to do to keep my baby safe and stay safe?' "

He got away with her purse after a brief struggle.

"You forget what's in what hand. I'm holding my baby. I'm holding onto everything as tight as I can because I don't know what's going on," said Sherwood. "Everybody fell down. Then he ran away and got into a car."

So what did the thief do next?

Before Amanda and her husband, Phil, could even cancel their credit cards, they found two charges on them.

First was a $20 charge at a Taco Bell on 45th Street. And another at a nearby Citgo, for around $50.

"We know where you've been. We're going to find you," said Phil Sherwood. "Put someone at risk for a hundred bucks and Taco Bell? It's unbelievable."

As police search, Amanda says except for a few bruises, she and Claire are OK, and thankful this didn't end up worse.

"It's nothing I could have done differently, necessarily. I was the unlucky one that day," said Sherwood.

The Sherwoods are hoping that the suspect was captured on surveillance video.

Gardens police did not immediately respond to our request for comment.
