Boca Raton police officers, others honored for heroism

Three Boca Raton police officers were honored Thursday morning for heroism.

They helped lift a car to save a boy who was pinned underneath the vehicle last September.

The incident happened at Verde Elementary school.

The officers were the first to arrive on the scene after six-year-old Dominic DeRoberts had been hit.

The child tripped and fell into the path of the vehicle while getting out of his grandfather's car in front of the school.

Thursday they recalled what it took to help pull the boy to safety.

"Fortunately there were three of us and some civilians we lifted... his grandfather pull him out from underneath," Boca Raton Police Officer Bruce Sonnenblick said.

Several others were also honored today during the Safety Council 15th annual safety awards.
