PORT ST. LUCIE -- When the call came in, it was like deja vu. Barbara Carlisle's friends and family are in disbelief. She, like her daugher, was killed in an accident involving a tractor-trailer.
Her friend, John Faturos, says,
"I was shocked. I could hardly talk, really very, very sad situation."Barbara left her Port St. Lucie home in the early morning hours. She was heading to work as as a flight attendant at Spirit Airlines. On I 95 south in Jupiter, she drove-up on a tractor-trailer accident she couldn't avoid.
Lt. Tim Frith, FHP, says, "Looking at the damage of the vehicle it was not a survivable crash."
Moments before, investigators say a car pulled out in front of a tandem "Rooms to Go" truck. The truck slowed up and another tractor-trailer hit it.
John Faturos says, I hated her driving back and forth on the interstate. It never concerned her really."
In 2002, Barbara's only child was killed, Jennifer, just twenty years old, died in an accident involving a tractor-trailer on the west coast of Florida. Pictures of Jennifer are scattered throughout the house Barbara shared with her brother Richard.
"I came over and helped her just like I'm doing now with her brother," says John.
Her brother is trying to come grips with how unrelated yet similar accidents killed two of his family members.
FHP says one of the tractor-trailer drivers may face a traffic charge. A traffic charge usually involves additional points added to the driver's insurance and/or driving school. FHP says it doesn't appear anything criminal happened. A spokesperson also says fog was not a factor in the crash.
