The first-ever Military Consumer Protection Day is underway July 17 in an effort to protect those who protect our country.
A new website http://www.military.ncpw.gov/ offers resources to protect personal information, avoid scams and manage money.
The Federal Trade Commission, the Defense Department, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and Military Saves are all involved, along with more than two dozen other federal and state agencies and consumer advocate groups.
The tips range from buying a new car to being smart with online spending.
In 2012, the Federal Trade Commission reports that it received more than 62,200 complaints from military consumers and identity theft topped the list with nearly 24,800 complaints.
To report a complaint to the FTC, call 1-877-FTC-HELP (1-877-382-4357).
