Impact 5: Changes for Florida Hardest Hit Fund

Changes are in the works for the Florida Hardest Hit program.  "Hardest Hit" is for homeowners who have lost their jobs or aren't making as much money as they used to.

Under new guidelines homeowners could receive assistance for up to one year.  Currently, financial assistance is only available for six months under the program.  The extension could benefit homeowners who are currently receiving money from the Hardest Hit fund.

Homeowners could also receive up to $18,000 to help them catch up on payments.   Right now, homeowners only qualify for up to $6,000 to help them become current on their mortgage.

The U.S. Treasury Department needs to approve these changes.  That could come by the end of May and homeowners could start seeing changes take effect by June.

To take a look at all of the changes in their entirety go to www.FloridaHousing.org, under Current Events.
