(WXIA/NBC NEWSCHANNEL) Police warn that thieves have a popular new target: truck tailgates.
Thieves are able to remove a trucks tailgate in less than a minute.
Mechanics say there are simple ways to protect yourself.
"Getting a latch that does have a lock with a key, where you can lock it," says Darren Carr. "There are covers that you can put over it will help as well."
A stolen tailgate could be worth thousands of dollars if sold online, or police say thieves can simply sell it for scrap metal.
