South Florida restaurants fined more than $16,000 by the state in February

South Florida restaurants were fined more than $16,000 by the state in February for issues that could put your food at risk. Three restaurants were fined thousands of dollars each for repeat problems they didn't fix.

Lenin’s (Courthouse) Café located in downtown West Palm Beach near the Palm Beach County Courthouse was fined the most money at $3300. Inspectors found food that was the wrong temperature and food training issues with the staff.

The owner is questioning whether he'll be there much longer.

The Consumer Watchdog asked the owner, Martin Lenin, if he was going to pay the $3,300 fine. Lenin responded, “No. If I have to pay it, I’ll walk away because she try to fine me for things I think that is not right.”

The Consumer Watchdog went on to ask Lenin why he did not attend a hearing on the issue that he requested. Lenin said he didn’t know why he didn’t go to the hearing and it probably was his fault.

Island Cuisine on Military Trail in Boynton Beach was fined more than $1,800 for potentially hazardous food and certification issues with a manager. Management said it's working on the problems. The restaurant still hasn't fixed its expired license.

In Belle Glade, Talk of the Town on Martin Luther King Boulevard was fined $2200 for equipment that was in poor condition. We could not find a working telephone number for this restaurant.
