Shell sends letters to owners warning of skimmers found in Florida

Latest company to report problem in growing crime

Shell gas stations in Palm Beach County received a warning to check for credit card skimmers in gas pumps. The warning sent by Shell Fraud Prevention sent Monday does not list specific station locations.

However, it said skimming devices were found in multiple areas of Florida including Palm Beach County, Longwood, Orlando, Sarasota, Ft. Meyer and Wildwood.

The devices are put inside the pumps and can't be seen by customers pumping gas. It can only be found if the door of the pump is opened.

This is the latest chain to report dealing with skimmers. In April, Hess announced skimmers were found at 16 Florida locations including at least seven in Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast.
