Ford will debut a solar-powered electric car at the Consumer Electronics Show next week. The car, a concept vehicle not ready for dealer showrooms, is a version of the C-Max Energi plug-in car already sold by Ford.
They used to say "Ford has a better idea". Now it's about to unveil its new solar-powered concept car. It offers the same performance as a plug-in hybrid, without the need for a plug.
The C-Max Solar Energy Concept Car uses a gasoline engine combined with a device that concentrates the sun's rays on the vehicle's roof-mounted solar panels.
Ford says the vehicle's estimated mileage is 100 mpg. A full day of sunshine is equivalent to a four-hour battery charge.
The automaker plans to introduce the car in Las Vegas next week.
