WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The Fourth of July isn't until Thursday, but the deals are already heating up and should last through next weekend. With a holiday in the middle of a week, you get more time to save. If you still need summer items, this might be a good time to grab some deals. Retailers need to start making room for back to school supplies that will be stocked in mid to late July, but don't expect to save on all your summer favorites.
Dealnews said it's a good time to grab a good price on a grill. Last year around the Fourth, the deal tracking site found an average savings of $75 on grills. The biggest savings were on gas grills, priced up to $160 off.
Clothing sales are also hot during the holiday. Dealnews said it's the official start to the summer clearance season. While the deals may get better, you'll have the most selection if you buy now. Last Fourth of July, the deal site saw retailers like Express, Nordstrom, and Gap offer an average of 62-percent savings. Look for coupons before you shop so you can save even more.
If you are shopping online, earn cash back for your purchases through a site like FatWallet or Ebates . You have to sign up for the program, then search for participating retailers, and click on their store from the Ebates or FatWallet site. Each quarter, you'll get a check based on how much cash you earned for your shopping. Every store offers a different cash back reward.
Before you buy any item, make sure you do your homework to ensure it's really a good deal. If there is an item you're interested in, begin researching the prices early. Sign up for an alert to track the savings. Sites like Hukkster , Decide , and PriceGrabber will tell you when the price drops.
While many summer items will go on sale, you might want to wait on the patio furniture sales. Dealnews said the best savings are in late August.
If you need a new appliance, FatWallet said the trending sale on its site is the one at Home Depot. If you buy two or more select appliances, you can save up to $400 instantly. Buy online through a site like Fat Wallet and earn 5% cash back.
Mattress deals at Sears are trending on FatWallet as well. The savings are 50 to 60 percent off plus free delivering and an extra 10% off for a purchase over $599.
Computers should also drop in price over the Fourth of July. Look for savings online and in the store.
Consumer Reports broke down the savings for cars this holiday weekend, focusing on American made cars that scored well in their testing, had average or better reliability in the latest subscriber survey, and performed well in government or insurance industry safety tests, if evaluated.
Consumer Reports showcased the following cars and their potential savings off MSRP: Chevy Cruze LS $2590, Acura TL $2,220, Chevy Traverse $2570, Chevy Silverado 1500 Crew Cab $3668.
While some of these deals will end, the savings will continue through the fall as the new models roll into showrooms in August.
Keep an eye out for more deals as they are expected to roll-out as we get closer to the Fourth. With the holiday in the middle of a week, you'll have more time to save.
