A lawsuit is claiming a hair product from Suave has damaged women's hair.
A federal judge has just given the go ahead to a class action lawsuit against a Suave hair product, rejecting the company's attempt to have the case thrown out.
This concerns a product called Suave Professionals Keratin Infusion 30 Day Smoothing Kit. But the suit -- and a dedicated Facebook page -- claims that it causes scalp burns, melted hair, and hair loss in some women.
The suit claims Suave Keratin Infusion contains a chemical synthesized from formaldehyde, which is not listed in the ingredients.
The two women at the center of the case claim their hair was melted by the product, and that 2 years later they still have visible bald spots.
The product is now listed as "discontinued" on Suave's website. Unilever, Suave's parent company, claims the product is safe if used according to directions. It plans to fight the lawsuit.
