Jack Nicklaus designs golf course for veterans

PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. - Golf legend and Palm Beach County resident Jack Nicklaus is honoring veterans with a unique tribute.  He is building an addition to a special golf course catered only to the brave men and women who serve in our military.

Nicklaus is building the course in Lakewood, Washington, specially designed for,  and only open to, military veterans.

"I didn't have the privilege of serving my country back in our time.  But I'm having a lot of fun being part of it today," Nicklaus said.

People involved say that American Lake Veterans Golf Course will serve as therapy for wounded warriors.

Nicklaus has designed nearly 300 highly-ranked courses around the world, but says he is putting the veterans' course first.

According to television news station KING 5, Nicklaus is giving more than half a millions dollars' worth of expertise in designing a nine-hole expansion for the course.  The current nine holes are routinely used by wounded veterans for physical and mental rehabilitation.
