Air leaks and bubbles

If you notice air leaks and bubbles from return line or jets of your pool, you should check the pump. These bubbles may indicate that the pump is taking air in with the water from some source. Over time, leaks will damage your pump, by overworking it and decreasing the efficiency of water filtration and chemical circulation. This change in pump operation may even change the clarity of the pool water. Locating and preventing air leaks and bubbles is crucial. Check the skimmer to make sure the water level is correct and the fit does not permit air to enter from the surface. Otherwise, your pool may have a missing or leaking pump o-ring, loose hose clamps or rubber couplings, cracks in the pump itself, or leaking gaskets. Your manufacturer's reference section should be able to provide additional information regarding air leaks. Should air leaks persist, seek assistance from a local pool professional.
