How has the housing crisis impacted you?

Nearly everyone in South Florida and the Treasure Coast has been impacted by the fallout of the housing crisis. In the last half-decade home prices have fallen steeply, foreclosure rates are at an all-time high and the result is our communities have undergone dramatic change.

WPTV NewsChannel 5 has chosen to examine the challenges that surround the housing crisis and help come up with solutions as part of its first “Impact 5” project. “Impact 5” is a long term commitment by WPTV to take a closer, in-depth look at important issues facing our community.

Challenges surrounding South Florida housing are some of the worst in the country with no signs of being resolved any time soon. The area ranks near the top in the nation in foreclosure filings and mortgage fraud. This issue transcends neighborhoods, communities and socio-economic levels.

“Impact 5: The Housing Crisis, Restoring the Dream” will go beyond the day-to-day headlines. WPTV will tell the stories of those affected by the problem and investigate what’s holding up a sustained recovery.

A large portion of the “Impact 5: The Housing Crisis” project will focus on solutions to help homeowners, neighborhoods and the region. In an unprecedented move surrounding this issue, WPTV will convene a community advisory board that will guide coverage and provide resources on WPTV’s news platforms. The board will be made up of Homeowners, HOA Presidents, Businesses, social action agencies and government agencies that are directly involved with this issue.
