'Ultimate Warrior', James Brian Hellwig: Wrestling icon collapses, dies outside Arizona hotel

The WWE announced Tuesday evening that a Hall of Fame wrestler has died.

In a statement posted to WWE.com , James Brian Hellwig, 54, known as "The Ultimate Warrior," died Tuesday.

"WWE is shocked and deeply saddened to learn of the passing of one of the most iconic WWE Superstars ever," the statement said.

According to TMZ, the Warrior collapsed outside an Arizona hotel while walking to the car with his wife.

TMZ says Hellwig was taken to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Hellwig began his career in 1987 and became famous when he defeated Hulk Hogan in WrestleMania VI, according to WWE.

The statement said that the wrestler had recently been inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.

The wrestler is survived by his wife and two daughters.
