George Clooney, Denzel Washington and Oprah Winfrey were among the first big names to land an invitation to meet with President Barack Obama during his first few months in office, according to official White House documents.

The trio were all vocal supporters of the politician's campaign to become the first black leader of America, and were said to have persuaded many to vote last year, especially Winfrey, who championed Obama on her hugely influential TV talkshow.

And Obama repaid his Hollywood supporters by ensuring they were allowed to visit him at the White House, according to a list released by his aides.

Clooney reportedly discussed his work as a U.N. messenger of peace in the war-torn Darfur of Sudan with Obama.
