DANIA BEACH, Fla. -- Scenes from Marvel Studios' superhero movie 'Iron Man 3' are set to begin filming in Dania Beach and around South Florida in October.
The movie's cast and production crew will start arriving Oct. 1, and includes actors Robert Downey Jr., Ben Kingsley, Gwyneth Paltrow and Don Cheadle, the Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Office of Film & Entertainment said Tuesday.
Filming began in North Carolina, and Broward is next up.
"We have had two very exciting back to back years of major film production in Greater Fort Lauderdale — we rocked with 'Rock of Ages' last summer with Tom Cruise, Russell Brand and Alec Baldwin," Film Commissioner Noelle Stevenson said in a statement.
The movie production is expected to bring millions of dollars to South Florida, film office officials said.
"It is a great boost to our local economy, not to mention jobs for our local film crews," Stevenson said. "Fifty percent to be precise need to be local crew members in order to receive the state of Florida's Film tax credit."
Efforts to showcase Greater Fort Lauderdale's production-friendly attributes are paying off with the attraction of film, TV, commercials, print and music video projects worth millions of dollars, the film office noted.
Other recent TV and music projects have included Tony Bennett and Sony Music CD Project "Latin Duets," A&E's TV drama "The Glades" and USA's "Burn Notice."
Broward's unique and diverse locations can provide the backdrop for any movie genre, tourism officials say.
The film's target for release is May 2013, according to Marvel.com.
