Donald Trump fires back at Bill Cosby after TODAY Show criticism

A war of words has erupted

A war of words has erupted between Donald Trump and Bill Cosby.

It was sparked after both appeared on NBC's TODAY Show.

Trump appeared first and said he might make a run for the president.

And a possible run has gained recent support. The most recent NBC News, Wall Street Journal Poll showed Trump as a GOP front-runner.

He said he can't run now because he's on TV hosting "Celebrity Apprentice" on NBC, but Bill Cosby isn't buying that.

During his TODAY Show appearance Cosby said, "He's full of it...based on what I just heard. You kept saying or somebody kept saying, 'are you going to run, are you going to run?' He jumped. You run or shut up."

Trump said he saw the comments and was shocked. In a written statement, Trump said, "I was surprised to hear him blabber, somewhat incoherently, you run or shut up. The hatred was pouring out of his eyes. If he doesn't want me to run because he's an Obama fan he should state the reasons and not come into my green room in front of witnesses and treat me like his best friend."

The White House is also getting in on the game. President Obama's senior adviser David Plouffe said in an interview, "There is zero chance Donald Trump would be hired by the American people. Mainstream Americans think it's a sideshow."

Trump fired back, this time on Fox & Friends. "Obviously I hit a nerve. I don't hear them talking about Mr. Pawlenty, but only Trump. I'm their worst nightmare. I am not the person they want to run against."

But it's clear Trump's public antics don't sit well with Bill Cosby, "Start running now. The only thing he's running in his mouth."

Trump came back with one last salvo. About Cosby he said, "Sadly, he got more attention talking about me than he did on the merits of his own appearance. Maybe he is not as dumb as I thought."

Cosby did not respond when asked to comment further.

Trump said he won't make any official announcement on the White House until this season of "Celebrity Apprentice" is over.
