Palm Beach County Schools: No make-up days for Tropical Storm Isaac

The Palm Beach County School District announced Friday that it will not use any emergency make-up days as a result of school closures for Tropical Storm Isaac.

According to a district press release, the Florida Department of Education agreed that the remaining instructional time in the district's school calendar exceeds statutory requirements. Those requirements are set in terms of hours of instruction over the school year, rather than a set number of school days.

While no make-up days will be used, a Learning Team Meeting/Professional Development Day scheduled for Oct. 11 has been canceled. Oct. 11 will now be a full school day for students.

Schools in Locahatchee and The Acreage will receive additional academic support to ensure the full curriculum is covered within the school year. 

Following Isaac, all 187 district schools were closed for two days. Another eight schools in the western communities were closed an extra 2 to 3 days.

The district also said that more than 6,000 home-bound students used the Keep Your Skills Sharp online activities during the closures.
