BOCA RATON, Fla. -- The inaugural South Florida Wheelchair Tennis Championships are being held this weekend at Patch Reef Park in Boca Raton.
It's a scaled-back version of the original Florida Open which finished its 23-year run in 2012.
Jim Tierney is the man in charge and tells ESPN 106.3's Emerson Lotzia that he decided to start this event because he knows how important the previous tournament was to everyone in the community.
