ALLEN PARK, MI - Shortly after meeting with team officials in Allen Park, free agent running back Reggie Bush has agreed to terms on a four-year deal with the Lions.

The Lions website has reported that the parties have agreed on a four-year deal. Financial terms have yet to be released.

Bush was originally drafted by the New Orleans Saints in 2006 and spent the past two seasons with the Miami Dolphins.  In 31 games with Miami, Bush rushed for 2,072 yards and 12 touchdowns while catching 78 passes for 588 yards and three touchdowns.

Shortly after the 2012 season, Lions general manager Martin Mayhew admitted his biggest mistake in the last year was not acquiring a running back who could fill the role previously held by Jahvid Best.

Best did not play in 2012 and has not played with the Lions since Week 7 of the 2011 season, when he suffered a concussion against the San Francisco 49ers.

It's unclear if Best will play again, but most signs point to his career with the Lions being over.

Bush, whose 2005 Heisman Trophy win was vacated after he was implicated in a booster scandal at USC, is best known for his explosiveness and big-play ability out of the backfield.  Not only does he have speed in the open field, he can catch passes as well.

He turned 28 years old on March 2.

The Lions relied on Mikel Leshoure and Joique Bell to anchor the running back duties in 2012.  The lack of explosive plays from the running back position was a consistent problem as Detroit struggled, posting a 4-12 record.
