Vero Beach, Fla. -  Draining barrels and swift shore break at South Beach Park will be a welcome sight for the Inaugural Body Surfin’ Contest presented by Shore lb. on the morning of November 10.

South Beach Park, 1702 Ocean Drive, has long been revered as one of the best waves on the Treasure Coast for body surfing because of its tendency to force waves to break powerfully near shore and now local body surfers will get their opportunity to prove who is the best at riding waves sans board.

The competition includes four divisions – Jr. Lifeguard (Under 16), Puddle Guard (Beginner), Rookie (Intermediate) and Senior Guard (Expert). Entry into the event is $30 per competitor and all proceeds will benefit the Vero Beach Lifeguard Association’s efforts to keep beachgoers safe by acquiring more water rescue equipment.

“Vero Beach is lucky to have such highly-trained lifeguards who work hard seven days a week so residents can safely enjoy our beaches,” said Chris Ellison, owner of Shore lb. and member of the VBLA advisory board. “Having reliable equipment for the lifeguards can make all the difference in the world during a rescue and the money raised during this contest will help us purchase new equipment like ATVs, a Jet Ski and standup paddleboards.”

Trophies and prizes will be awarded to the top competitors in each division and all entrants will receive a free competition T-shirt. Rider check-in begins at 8 a.m., a mandatory riders meeting is set for 8:30 a.m. and the competition will commence at 9 a.m.

After the contest, Shore lb. is sponsoring a free product launch party and runway show with a performance by local reggae rock band Kayavibe at 8 p.m. at Filthy’s, 1238 16th Street.
