Kris Kerr, a New Smyrna local was taking pictures of his friend in the murky shark infested waters around ponce inlet when he was charged by a shark.  He has time to yell "Say Cheeze", snaps a picture then punches the shark to avoid being another statistic.

You probably missed it because it was on the "Today Show" on CBS but this feat landed Kerr an exclusive interview with Erica Hill last Friday.  The shark punching episode was not the highlight of the interview though, it was the sweet mustaches Kerr and his buddy (who looks 12) have for the interview.  Most of the comments about this story have been about the 'staches instead of the shark charging photo!!!

Check out the video:  and the whole story on the CBS website

Speaking of Shark attacks, there have been reports of some big sharks circling around Juno pier.

I got an email from a local there who was surfing last Wednesday morning (15th) that said he saw what he thought might be a 10' hammerhead.

According to him, he spoke with life guards and the pier attendant and the attendant "indicated that they have been spotting several large sharks and that someone landed an ‘11’bull shark’ this past weekend off the pier."

Wouldn't be the first time unfortunately, here is a video of a huge 10ft tiger shark snagged at the pier a month ago. This guy looks pretty scary!  Man, if I saw this thing swimming under me I would be walking on water!

The problem is, you can't pull a huge 1000 pound shark up on the pier, so eventually they have to cut the line and the shark has to live with a hook and line stick in his mouth.
