Jupiter fall classic surf constest
Posted: 11/14/2012
It's that time of year again, November brings more consistent swell, plenty of turkey, and of course...the Jupiter Fall Classic Surf Contest. It was a great year last year with a big swell, Tom Curren showing up, and the new contest site at the Juno Pier. offering a better quality wave.
This year will be the twelfth year for the longest running surf event in Palm Beach County. This event is also the final event in the Western Atlantic Surf Series , and a champion will be crowned for that.
Last year Jeremy Johnston was the winner, in choppy 3-5foot surf. Here's how he smashed it and came up victorious in 2011
2012 will start out on Thursday, November 15th at the Jupiter Beach Resort for registration party from 6-8pm. Friday will be the kickoff to competition starting at 7am at the Juno Beach Pier. The popular Kona Beer Garden will be back on the beach starting at 10am. After the first day of competition there will be a kick off party at Guanabanas in Jupiter featuring music from Spread the Dub and William Kimball.
Competition in the water will continue Saturday with a Live concert party at Corners in Jupiter at night featuring Project X and Bryce Allen.
The competition will wrap up and a winner crowned on Sunday, November 18th. The after party will be at Corners featuring Brett Duff.
The surf forecast does look like we should get some contestable waves for the contest, with a new swell filling in on Friday in the chest high range. The surf should stay waist to chest through Saturday with onshore winds in the afternoons, lighter in the mornings. Late morning to lunch time might be a challenge thanks to an extra high tide cycle. Surf may build a little bit now on Sunday. Winds will pick up in the afternoon and blow it out though.
