Lee County, Fla. -    Dead fish are washing up on the beaches of the Gulf Coast.
Biologists say red tide is the reason.
Hundreds of fish, eels and shellfish have come ashore in Lee county.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission reports,
there's a large patch of red tide that extends from Sanibel Island
all the way to the Keys.
Red tide is caused by a microscopic phytoplankton that emits a toxin for fish.
that same toxin can cause difficulty breathing in humans.
