The Miami Dolphins signed veteran cornerback Michael Coe on Wednesday in an attempt to supplement the secondary and special teams unit.

The New York Giants waived Coe from injured reserve on Monday, allowing him to become a free agent. Coe, who has been battling hamstring injuries all season, was placed on IR on Nov. 10.

He spent the past three seasons with the Giants, where he played in 21 games with one start.

Coe, whose father Charles Coe was head coach at Alabama State, made 13 tackles in seven games for the Giants this season.

Coe, a former Alabama State standout who was selected in the fifth-round of the 2007 draft, is playing for his fourth team in six years.

In 34 career games with the Colts, Jaguars and Giants, Coe has 40 tackles and four passes defensed.

During his college career, which began at Arkansas where he was a two-year starter, he tallied 100 tackles, seven interceptions and 26 pass deflections.

Coe immediately went to work on Miami's kickoff coverage unit. The Dolphins have allowed a special teams touchdown the pass two games.

It is possible Miami's trying to limit Nolan Carroll, Chris Clemons and Reshad Jones' snap count on special teams.

Fullback Jovorskie Lane sidelined

Starting fullback Jovorskie Lane, who has been nursing a knee injury for the past month, sat out the media portion of Wednesday's practice. Lane, who primarily serves as the Dolphins' lead blocker in the I-formation, wore a brace on his left knee.

He worked with the trainers on the side and its possible he participated in some portions of practice.

Lane typically splits the workload with H-back Charles Clay, who caught six passes for 84 yards and scored a touchdown against the Seahawks.
