TAMPA - Police arrested Jordan Schafer, an outfielder for the Houston Astros, for possession of marijuana.

Schafer, 25, was stopped at a red light at Columbus Drive and Glen Avenue at around 12:30 a.m on Tuesday. Police officers in an unmarked car reported seeing Schafer smoking marijuana behind the wheel of a 2008 Land Rover. Three people were inside the vehicle. The windows were rolled down and officers smelled a strong odor of marijuana, authorities said.

Schafer reportedly admitted to smoking marijuana. Officers also found the drug in a plastic container and in three peanut butter cups. Schafer was taken to the Orient Road Jail. Police seized his Land Rover and he may have to forfeit it authorities.

Schafer went to Winter Haven High School and has a Haines City address. He was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the third round of the draft in 2005. He was suspended from baseball for 50 games in 2008 after being accused of taking human growth hormone.

In 2009, Schafer hit a home run in his first major league at bat. Schafer was traded to the Astros in July of this year.
