So now, after more than a month of anxious whispers, we know exactly what Miami Dolphins radio analyst Jim Mandich is up against.
The former tight end and proud “Meeech-igan” man is battling cancer of the bile duct.
Mandich is upbeat, telling Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald his “mind frame is strong” and “I feel very good.”
That’s great to hear, and I’m sure everyone in South Florida can breathe a little easier knowing that Mandich is so determined to beat this thing.
And while it’s sad to hear Mandich confirm he has done his last radio talk show — he always made you think, always shot straight, always came off as the grownup in a crowded room increasingly filled with sophomoric giggling — at least there’s a chance we’ll keep hearing his insights and exclamations on Dolphins radio broadcasts. (And reading them in the next day’s Sun Sentinel.)
Mandich, 61, wants to continue as a Dolphins analyst over on Clear Channel, and now that he’s through at WQAM that shouldn’t be a problem. Should it?
