GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- Former Florida basketball player Dan Werner faces a DUI charge.

Authorities say 23-year-old Werner was stopped because he was driving with his high beams on and a tag light out. He allegedly told the officer he was driving because his girlfriend was intoxicated.

Authorities say Werner smelled of alcohol and had watery, bloodshot eyes, and he also told them he had consumed two alcoholic beverages.

Authorities say he performed poorly on the field sobriety test but blew 0.065 and 0.070 on the breath alcohol test. State law considers a driver intoxicated at 0.08 percent.

Werner was released from jail on his own recognizance on Tuesday.

His attorney's name wasn't immediately available.
