Jack McKeon accepts Florida Marlins manager job for rest of season

Jack McKeon has accepted the job as Marlins manager for the rest of the year. The Marlins have called a 3 p.m. press conference at Sun Life Stadium.

Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated first reported the agreement.

Jack had been mulling the offer with his family since yesterday. An announcement will come later today.

McKeon, 80, takes over for Edwin Rodriguez, who resigned on Father’s Day in the midst of the worst stretch of baseball the team has played since 1998.

McKeon’s first go-around with the fish came in 2003, after Jeff Torborg was fired on Mother’s Day. Trader Jack led the Marlins to the World Series championship that year.
