On Saturday, while delivering a speech, the Pope had an unexpected visitor who refused to leave his side.
Thousands of Catholics gathered at the Vatican to celebrate the Year of Faith with Pope Francis.
A group of children were brought down to the front of the stage where the pope was speaking and invited to sit on the steps while he spoke.
A small boy left his assigned seat and stood next to the pope for a while, at one point reaching over and hugging the pontiff.
Pope Francis gently embraced him with one hand and let him be by his side during the speech.
Several cardinals encouraged the boy to return to his seat, but he refused.
Pope Francis sat the youngster on his chair while he continued his speech.
