Ryan Thompson took his girlfriend Carlie on a private flight over Chicago with a plan to frighten her, and then make her his wife.

Ryan pretended that the plane he was flying was about to crash.

Believing that the plane's controls were malfunctioning, Carlie began struggling to read the emergency manual as requested by Ryan.

‘The checklist is complete … and it says the rings may be engaged … and to initiate the ring engagement procedure,’ his Carlie read from the manual. She then read "Will you marry me?"
