HOUSTON - A flight bound for Dallas, Texas from Brazil was diverted after a 25-year-old woman became ill and died on board, police said.
ABC News reports that the flight left Sao Paolo at 1:12 a.m. bound for Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.
When the woman became ill, she was treated by a doctor on board and flight crew.
The plane was diverted to Houston where it landed about 2 1/2 hours later at 6:34 a.m.
Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Laura Brown said that while onboard deaths are not common, it is not clear how many there are a year.
The passenger was declared dead after the plane landed, authorities said.
Homicide detectives were called to investigate and an autopsy will be done, Houston police spokeswoman Jodi Silva said.
The name of the passenger was not immediately released.
