JUPITER, Fla. - Brenda St. Laurent says for more than 15 years her husband Bruce donated toys for kids in the Jupiter Head Start program.
"He did everything, he would buy blankets for people. That's Bruce, that was Bruce. So, good guy."
But this year Brenda's heart is aching. Bruce, who played Santa every year, is not with her this Christmas. The Jupiter police officer was killed during a presidential motorcade on I-95 in September.
Brenda says Bruce loved helping kids and wants to keep the tradition going.
"Bruce would have wanted it that way, he always played Santa Claus and he can't be there this year so Mrs. Claus is going to help out. You see a lot of kids that don't have anything, and the joy you see on their face when they open the gifts up. We were foster parents too for a lot of the kids, " said Brenda.
Talking about Bruce during the holidays seems more than she can bear. Family members like Lori Alfrey are by Brenda's side to help her cope.
"He's amazing, had a lot for the kids and did so much for them. He loved his job. He did."
A portion of the proceeds from the production "The Polar Express" will benefit the the St. Laurent family.
