WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Tuesday night 23 year old Cassadee Pope winning the hearts of viewers with her sultry voice on the NBC singing show. "Cassadee Pope!" Cassadee now has a recording contract with Universal Music Group. Cassadee said to a reporter, "I can't tell you how it feels, because I feel completely numb. I feel like this isn't really happening."
Her road to success began when she was a little girl in West Palm Beach. Candy Tamposi, Cassadee's former principal at St. Ann School, says Cassadee grew up with her own daughter, Ali. The two are now roommates in Los Angeles. Candy said, "I knew she was gifted from the moment I met her. She has performed in competitions and festivals all over and just had a great gift for voice. As principal I watched her study voice and band and she had a great talent for music."
Her family's 8th grade yearbook tribute even calls her their "shining star."
Cassadee's elementary school music teacher is also a fan. Gary Snyder remembers Cassadee as one of the lead singers for the school's jazz band. She often sang with a trio. Gary said, "I distinctly remember and I know she would remember, we would use this recorder, a little tape recorder thing. And I remember them huntched over in a corner to record and they would be doing vocals, and they would still sound good. Later I would listen to it and they would sound excellent."
That excellence shined through to launch her singing career. Chazz Chiamardas, a teacher at Sacred Heart School, said, "I honestly really honestly did not think she was going to win. Sorry, Cassadee. But then she kept getting better and better and better and her voice started to get so developed and great and I knew she was on her way to greatness."
Cassadee will appear on the Jay Leno Show tonight and on the Today Show Thursday morning. Also, the City of West Palm Beach will declare Thursday Cassadee Day.
