DAVIE, Fla. - A woman left a Target store in Davie with hundreds of dollars in stolen goods, police said. But she forgot one thing: her 6-year-old daughter.
On Tuesday, the woman was seen entering the store on the 5800 block of South University Drive with a child at about 4:30 p.m.
A Target employee told Davie police he saw the woman place items into Target bags. The woman then walked by the cash register area "without any attempt to pay," the arrest report shows.
When the woman stepped out of the Target store, the employee stopped her and called police. The price of the stolen items: $372.91.
Her daughter was not with her. Security cameras show that the woman left the girl alone near the pet aisle in the back of the store, police said.
The woman was identified as Deirdre Grant, 40, of Miami. She was charged with grand theft and child neglect.
During a bond court hearing Wednesday, Grant shook her head as Broward County Judge John "Jay" Hurley described how she left her daughter in the store.
"You're shaking your head like there's no way that can be true," Hurley said.
Grant was free on bond for a grand-theft charge last month. Hurley revoked her bond on that charge, and she is in a Broward County jail.
Hurley said the Department of Children and Families would be contacted to appoint a guardian ad litem for the girl.
