FORT MYERS, Fla. - A two-year old boy got the scare of his life when he accidentally tripped and fell several feet into the cold Caloosahatchee River in Fort Myers.

Robert Moss was one of thousands of people enjoying their day at the "Taste of Town," but when he heard commotion by the water, he jumped into rescue mode.

"I heard that there was a baby that fell in the water," Moss said. "And that's what I ran to."

Moss says instincts immediately kicked in.

Another man, 54-year-old Andy Fowler had the little boy in his arms, but the current was strong.

That's when Moss saw Fowler go under.

"When I got out to him he went down again," Moss said. "He kind of rolled his eyes at me and said that he didn't think that he was going to make it."

Moss held onto Fowler with one hand and the little boy with the other.

"He was scared," said Moss. "He wanted his mommy."

Meanwhile, a young medical student saw the men having trouble, so he jumped in.

"When I saw the kid's head go under the water, there was no thinking about it," said student Justin Bacon.

Bacon, who took life guard training, brought Fowler to shore.

Moss had the little boy in his arm and after fighting the strong currents, they both made it to land.

"I told him I had it don't worry about it," said Moss. "You know I'll get you back."

Both Moss and Bacon admit they were tired after the rescue, but they say that they would have done this for anyone.

"I'm happy," said Moss. "My legs are sore, but I'm happy. I'm happy everyone's okay."
