Surveillance videocam in Fort Lauderdale records road rage shooting

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- Fort Lauderdale police are searching for the man who pulled over the BMW he was driving and fired shots at a pickup truck that had been following him.

A surveillance camera recorded the shooting on the 1400 block of Northeast 56th Street in Fort Lauderdale, around 10:42 a.m. on June 20.

The video shows the gunman standing about 5-foot-5, weighing approximately 180 pounds, with a bushy black beard, and his hair pulled up in a light blue dreadlocks stocking cap. He wore a matching light blue T-shirt with a white design on the front, dark blue jeans, and black shoes with white trim around the soles.

Officers met with the victim who told them he had only followed the suspect for about a quarter mile before passing him when the BMW pulled over. Detectives were able to get the surveillance video from one of the nearby homes that recorded what's being called an aggravated assault.

After watching the video, detectives believe that the victim and suspect were driving eastbound on Northeast 56th Street. The victim was driving a Ford F-250 closely behind the suspect, who was driving a tan BMW.

The surveillance video shows the suspect pulling into a driveway and quickly getting out as the pickup truck drove past. The suspect then pulled out a handgun and fired several shots at the Ford F-250 as it drove away. The suspect then got back into the BMW and sped off.

No one was injured in the shooting, but one of the bullets struck the Ford F-250 near the door.

Neighborhood resident Jason Bellows said he heard the gunshots.

Detectives consider this a road rage incident based on the victim's statements, as well as the surveillance video.
