Economic boost for space coast community -
CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) -- A new study says Port Canaveral generated $2 billion in economic impact for the Space Coast community last year.
The study results made public Thursday shows that the port generates 17,000 jobs, and its businesses produce annual tax revenue of $74.3 million.
During the past two decades, the port has become a hub for cruise ships, and it's central Florida's primary outlet to the sea for cargo.
The study was commissioned by Port Canaveral and conducted by a Pennsylvania firm.
