NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla. -- A man has been arrested and charged with third degree grand theft after he allegedly jumped into a North Miami Beach Police cruiser and went for a ride Sunday afternoon, WSVN reports.
According to a WSVN report, the marked vehicle was parked on the south side of the North Miami Beach Police Station, when the man entered the vehicle. Police say the vehicle was probably unlocked, with the keys inside. The suspect drove off with the police cruiser.
A short time later, officers noticed the vehicle traveling northbound along West Dixie Highway and Northeast 172nd Street. Police pulled up in front of the vehicle. The man then rolled down the window and said, "I just wanted to drive for a little bit," according to police reports.
WSVN reports that police identified the man as 28-year-old Stalyn Enriquez Hernandez. He was immediately taken into custody and charged with third degree grand theft.
North Miami Beach Police are conducting an internal investigation.
