South Florida residential burglaries: How to protect your home from criminals

With thousands of residential burglaries across South Florida each year, law enforcement is suggesting residents protect themselves by studying criminal behavior. An article and attached video in the Sun-Sentinel  points to suspicious activity during a home break-in.  

Police say the video, shot by a neighbor, demonstrates how criminals behave.  
 
Neighbors noticed suspicious behavior and dialed 911. Police were eventually able to catch up with suspects and make an arrest.
 
Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office suggests some simple steps to protect your neighborhood.
 
Landscaping and lighting can help or hinder a criminal's intentions.  
 
Locks and alarms on doors and windows can put up added barriers to burglars.
