DAVIE, Fla. - An opportunistic thief who was initially thwarted from getting inside a Davie home by way of its "doggie door," ended up burglarizing the same residence twice this month anyway, police said.
According to investigators, on Oct. 6, the burglar tried to use the pet door behind the home to gain entry but was run off by the family dog. Still, he grabbed a television from the home's rear porch before fleeing.
Then, five days later, the same person came back and reached through the doggie door and was able to unlock the residence, police said.
The homeowner's surveillance video shows someone wearing a ball cap, print t-shirt, baggy shorts, sandals and gloves grabbing things from a bedroom. He was able to steal a 9 mm handgun from the home, according to police.
Police ask anyone with information about the burglaries to contact the Davie Police Department Detective Bureau at 954-693-8281.
