MILTON, Fla. -- State officials say a juvenile prison guard caught on video battering a teenage inmate is back at work at the Florida Panhandle facility.
The Department of Juvenile Justice on Wednesday released surveillance video showing Shannon Abbott pushing the 15-year-old into a wall, throwing her to the ground and lying on top of her for nearly 20 minutes Aug. 9 at the Milton Girls Juvenile Residential Facility.
The Department of Children and Families began investigating after the girl called the agency's abuse hotline.
Abbott was arrested last week on a charge of misdemeanor battery. She has pleaded not guilty.
Juvenile Justice Secretary Wansley Walters says the video "seriously contradicts" the privately managed facility's incident report. The agency has asked the facility to keep Abbott from having any contact with children.
