— A Palm Springs Police Officer was charged with grand theft this morning after he was accused of depositing a check for more than $55,000 meant for his mother into his personal bank account and spending most of it.

On Tuesday, 44-year-old Sean Grant posted an $8,000 bond and was released from Palm Beach County Jail - less than a hour after he was booked at 6:11 p.m.

In addition to grand theft over $20,000, Grant faces the charge of uttering forged bills, checks, drafts or notes, according to the statement issued by Palm Beach County State Attorney's Office this morning.

The statement explained that Grant was accused of depositing a $55, 279 check meant for his mother, Renee Grant, into his bank account in August 2010. The check was Renee Grant's share of a settlement in the wrongful death suit of her mother, according to the statement.

Sean Grant is accused of using the money for business expenditures, including the purchase of vehicles, college tuition for his daughters and personal vacation trips.

If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in prison.
