AVIE, Fla. (AP) - Gov. Rick Scott called recent high-profile cases of children who were horrifically abused or killed "tragic" but said child welfare officials will still need to get by with less funding.
In an appearance Friday morning in Davie, Scott said he was confident Department of Children and Families Secretary David Wilkins would come up with a plan to prevent future problems within the agency.
But the governor says "we've got to figure out how to do more with less." If not, he says, "we're never going to grow jobs in this state."
His budget proposal includes millions in cuts to DCF.
