STUART — Motorists are asked to avoid the downtown area near Osceola Street and Confusion Corner as Stuart Fire Rescue crews battle a structure fire.

Officials have closed Southwest Flagler Avenue to Confusion Corner and Osceola Street to Hanny Street for rescue personnel.

Firefighters responded to a report of a structure fire at 12:30 p.m. Monday. Upon their arrival at the business at 33 S.W. Flagler Ave., they found heavy black smoke coming from the second floor of Proctor Cook Crowder and Fogal, an accounting firm. Fire was also seen on the roof.

Everyone had been evacuated from the building. Fire Rescue personnel also evacuated people from the Joseph Lynn Art Gallery, located next door.

Firefighters remain on the scene.

Southwest Flagler between Colorado and St. Lucie avenues remains closed, along with portions of Osceola Street between St. Lucie and Colorado avenues.
