POMPANO BEACH, Fla. - An armed home invasion robbery in Pompano Beach led to a chase on Interstate 95 that clogged rush hour traffic for nearly two hours on Tuesday, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office.
It started around 4 p.m. with an armed robbery at a home on the 600 block of Northwest 20 t h Court. Two men, who were handcuffed together, managed to escape and the suspects chased and fired shots at them before fleeing in a gold Saturn, sheriff's spokeswoman Dani Moschella said.
"[They] got on I-95 at Atlantic Blvd., going north bound, driving recklessly, weaving in and out of traffic," she said.
Pursuing deputies executed a PIT maneuver, causing the Saturn to spin out near Sample Road, where traffic had to squeeze around two closed lanes until nearly 6 p.m., Moschella said.
Three men were taken into custody and deputies seized a handgun, lots of cash and a "significant amount" of marijuana found inside the getaway car, she said.
Despite the chase and the gunfire, no one was reported hurt, Moschella added.
