FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - A Fort Lauderdale police cruiser caught fire early Monday on the westbound ramp of Interstate 595 that leads to I-95.
The incident was reported shortly after 6:15 a.m. and was restricting the traffic flow from I-595 to the merge point with I-95.
By 6:45 a.m. the fire was out but fire crews remained at the scene, hosing down the vehicle to keep it from reigniting.
There were only slight delays through the scene.
What led to the fire wasn't immediately known.
Preliminary information is that the officer who was in the squad car was able to get out safely.
