MELBOURNE, Fla. (AP) -- Officials say three people have died following a single-engine plane crash at Melbourne International Airport.
The Cirrus SR22 was attempting to land Wednesday evening when it crashed off the end of a runway.
Florida Today ( http://on.flatoday.com/AEED8d ) reports that rescue crews searched the wooded area at the end of the runway for about an hour before they found the wreckage.
The bodies of 44-year-old Robert Kurrus Jr, 25-year-old Justin Gaines and 24-year-old James Franklin, all of Brevard County, were found in the wreckage of the crash.
The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating.
Brian Rayner of the NTSB says the Cirrus SR22 plane was extensively damaged.
