We are getting a rare view of nature in action courtesy of cameras set up by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
Remote sensing cameras are placed in wooded areas for two weeks at a time, to help biologists estimate the deer population.
Cameras often capture far more than deer-- like in this case -- they show a raccoon caught off guard by a hungry alligator!
In the photo you can see the raccoon darts off-- virtually skating across the water to escape the jaws of the big reptile.
The gator lunges-- and gives it its best shot, but as far as we can tell, it appears quick action may have saved the raccoon from certain death!
Now that's "fast food"!
